More Spelling...

Your child’s Words Their Way (spelling) level is BEGINNING CONSONANT, meaning that every week a list will be sent home with one or two target beginning sounds. This list may be actual words or pictures. Your child will need to work on recognizing the beginning sound of each word, discerning which letter makes that sound, and writing the word to the best of his or her ability. The entire word MUST be attempted, but if the target is correctly put down the child will be awarded full credit. PLEASE DO NOT TELL YOUR CHILD THAT IT’S OK TO JUST WRITE DOWN THE FIRST LEYTTER OF EACH WORD. Although full credit will be awarded if your child does only write the first letter, being told that that is all that is necessary will prevent your child from progressing past this level. Again, the whole word should be thought about, sounded out, and attemped.

To assist in study at home, please work with your child to pick out the beginning sound of his or her words for the week, a well as other words that come up in regular conversation. This ability to hear beginning sounds is essential to becoming a successful speller.

Thank you!

Mr. Matt
